ATM Design Upgrade for a top-10 bank

Ksenia
👋 Hello! I’m glad to see you here.
I was a lead designer for 1,5+ years (2018-2020) at the Gazprombank (a top-10 bank in Eastern Europe).

In this project my responsibilities involved:

✦ Creating user scenarios for usability testing

✦ Communicating with stakeholders

✦ Participating in usability tests

✦ Supervising development in close collaboration with engineers

Competitive analysis

Ksenia
Together with a UX researcher, we studied the user experience of various ATMs (both local and foreign banks)
After collecting all the information, I made a first concept.

Prototypes

Ksenia
In collaboration with the design team and researchers and the project manager, we identified more than core 10 scenarios for working with an ATM and ranked them based on importance.
After completing work on the prototype, the researcher handed these scenarios over to me for design.

Design concept

Ksenia
At this stage, my main goal was to create a design that would be accessible. I used bright colors, large fonts, and high contrast to make it convenient for a maximum number of users.

Templates

Ksenia
I created templates for all types of screens, which made it possible to quickly assemble new screens and maintain consistency.

User scenarios

Ksenia
The ATM design consists of more than 100 screens. The screens are structured according to scenarios for ease of use by all participants in the process.
The work took place in close cooperation with a researcher, a copywriter, and an illustration designer.

RITE Method User Testing

Ksenia
To check our design we used Rapid Iterative Testing and Evaluation (RITE). It's a usability testing method where you evaluate a solution to a usability problem multiple times rapidly and iteratively. The goal was to identify not just usability problems, but also to react quickly to identified issues and test new solutions.
For example, A large number of buttons on the screen was incomprehensible to the respondents. The biggest difficulties were caused by the buttons +1/-1 and +10/-10.
